The What’s Underneath Project gives people an opportunity to be the one in charge of telling their own story. This project allows us to learn the stories of each individual body. We learn what these bodies have gone through, what they have overcome, and what they are celebrating. So I feel that by the end when we see their (almost) bare bodies, we as viewers have developed a lens of compassion and appreciation for this person we haven’t ever met.
